THE SCIENTIFIC GROUNDS OF THE BION INSTITUTE

Organicism

The Bion Institute is first of all based on a philosophy orientation called organicism. It asserts that reality is best understood as an organic whole and that biological forms are the consequences of self-sustaining biological principles. Organcism draws ideas from various sources:

One of the branches proceeds from the contemporary organicism originating from embryonic orthogenetic background. According to their belief the morphogenetic field has been the main force in the process of forming living organisms or species of life on Earth (Sole R., Goodwin B. 2000: Signs of life: How complexity pervades biology. Basic books).

The other branch originates from the theories of non-linear dynamic systems including theories of deterministic chaos (e.g. Boolean nets). They also try to explain the emergent principles of complex non-linear dynamic systems, especially the characteristics of their phase spaces. Since these systems include all individual organisms as well as wide complexes like ecosystems, some general principles can also be applied to them.

The third branch proceeds from bioelectromagnetics or contemporary theoretical emergentistic biophysical knowledge. According to their philosophy the complex organization of life processes is the consequence of endogenous electromagnetic field or field of endogenous coherent oscillations. It has been empirically proven that this field directly and indirectly coordinates various molecular reactions inside living organisms as well as morphogenetic processes.

The fourth branch originates from palaeontologic, zoologic, botanical, ethologic, biochemical and other biological areas focusing on convergent evolution phenomena (scientifically commonly known as homoplasy) (Conway Morris S. 2003. Life's Solution: Inevitable Humans in a Lonely Universe. Cambridge Univ. Press). Scientists belonging to this stream tend to derive certain principles of biological structures and processes from the abundance evolutional convergences - from biochemical phase space to space of anatomic structures and intelligence. Due to heterogenic biological phase spaces some foreseeable evolution trajectories could exist - certain form of endogenous evolution trends are opposing neo-Darwinistic theory.

All the mentioned theories and streams agree that the evolution of life was also a consequence of coincidences, unpredictable events, selection pressures, mutations and other similar influences; but nevertheless they strongly believe that many biological characteristics were caused by endogenous biological principles.

Biofield

The Bion Institute is from the theoretical point of view organicism oriented, but from empirical point of view it favours bioelectromagnetics. Regarding the knowledge obtained following both lines we gradually developed synthetic scientific approach determining that higher organization principles or organisms demanded suitable kinetics - the existence of emergent forces or fields in physical sense. We can assume that non-reducibility of higher organizational principles of organisms also mean the emergence of energies* or fields. These fields are not some supernatural higher (life) force as vitalists tend to claim but integral part of nature and therefore easily accessible to scientific research.

Biofield was according to the hypothesis set by Herbert Fröhlich identical to the field of coherent endogenous oscillation. This hypothesis has been eventually upgraded by the group of Italian physics creating quantum field theory. This field leveled around the visible spectrum coincides with the biophoton field of Fritz-Albert Popp. On the other side the concept of biofield as integral biological field coincides also with morphogenetic field as determined by some contemporary organicists [1, 2], Rupert Scheldrake [3] and Rene Thoma [4]. In all the theories this field is closely connected with sensitized matter through innumerable intracellular dipoles and ions ensuring reestablishing of strong electrical field common to membranes of all living cells. Due to this connection and 'long-range collective modes' the biofiled is emergent. According to common characteristics of emergence, biofield can obtain properties unlikely to be found on the basis of already known fields and natural matter that makes it emerge - similarly we can not predict the characteristics of super fluid helium on the basis of even so detailed knowledge of He3 or He4 before the phenomenon of super fluidity actually occurs.

If we consider so far discovered characteristics, the biofield is made of short- and long-range active component. While first one operates on the basis of electric concentration we assume that long-range component works in a much more subtle way similar to Aharonov-Bohm effect - the way A (vector potential) causes changing of oscillating phases of electromagnetic field (5, 6) more in a sense of information being a brutal force. From this perspective it could also be called subtle field. Because biofield has got its own special wave length it can influence physical matter through its quantum nature. From this point of view the concept of emergent field can have some joint points with ideas of so called quantum biology (go to 7, 8, 9, 10, 11].

Biofield is not necessarily completely emergent, similar as not all the helium is super fluid at specified temperature. On the basis of common principles of biological systems - one of them is for example the fact that they most often operate on the edge between chaos and order - we presume that biofield is party coherent and emergent but party is neither coherent neither emergent. We can conclude that greater destruction of field's emergent components lead to death and milder destruction to illness.

Energy field of matter

In case of nonliving materials we usually use term energy field or ME field and not biofield. Energy field appears when electromagnetic field is connected to a physical matter. This field is theoretically dealt with by quantum approach to condensed matter physics (Preparata G. 1995. QED Coherence in Matter. Singapore, London, New York, World Scientific). It has got some significant 'long-range collective modes' and can be treated as emergent. Due to some resemblances biofield can be transmitted to liquid medium leaving its traces there. Certain characteristics of such liquid medium can be found out through interference with strong electric field - we do it using electrophotography.

Energy field of the nonliving materials is universal and can theoretically and empirically also characterize water. Water is able to change characteristics of its field and store imprints of various influences to which it is exposed; this natural phenomenon is called molecular information or so-called memory of water [12, 13]. In nonliving materials ME field appears in case of sufficient concentration of dipoles and connected electromagnetic field. A group of Italian scientists presumed on the basis of quantum field theory that water creates perfect environment for such processes due to dipole interactions leading to strong electromagnetic field. This theory completely occupied the work of British scientist C. Smith [14].
Through our own experiments we have found out that it was not only about the memory of water but also about the memory of physical matter in wider aspect. The information of key importance was that during the imprinting phase the medium needed to be in a liquid state. It can be proven by scientifically verified high technology ElibraTech developed by our institute.

Because field imprinted in water or other polymer interacts with living organism in a way that can not be explained by classical biophysical means we think it is also the case of typical interaction between ME field and biofield of living organism.

Note*: It could be discussed whether these energies could be actually completely classical and already known (electromagnetic for example) or not. The solution of this dilemma is rather equivalent to philosophical or theoretical answer of the question whether emergence is a common phenomenon. We think that true (objective) emergence demands certain wave function that can not be factorized to wave functions of single elements of the same system. Emergence that does not meet this condition is questionable and should be subjected to individual judgments.
